Why Solar Panels are the solution

Solar energy has obvious and popular appeal due to its free availability and non-diminishing nature. The energy from the sun does not release carbon into our atmosphere and in fact is a key factor in removing carbon by helping trees and other plants to consume carbon in order to grow. Almost all energy ultimately comes from the sun. Coal, Oil, Gas and peat are the remains of plants which captured energy over millions of years from the sun. Using solar energy allows us to reduce the need to release the carbon from these fossil fuels that has been stored away by nature over millions of years.

Solar energy can be used in two ways; 1. Harvesting the heat in solar panels and transferring it to water to meet the hot water requirements of households and industry 2. Converting the energy to electricity through photovoltaic panels.

However, even though solar energy is highly renewable and in abundance almost worldwide, it’s potential for electricity generation is limited by its diffuse and irregular nature. Solar energy is also hindered by other more obvious factors such as the interruption of cloud cover and its ineffectiveness at night.
The sun provides more than 10,000 times the energy needed by the human race so if we could harvest 0.0025% of it we could reduce carbon emissions by 25%

Advantages of Multi Fuel Stoves v Traditional Fireplaces

The same quantity of fuel will emit at least three times more heat when burned in a stove versus when it is burned in a traditional open fireplace.
An open fire will suck warm air from the room as long as the room is warmer than air outside. Therefore, all the heat produced by an evening fire is lost because the open fire is constantly drawing in massive amounts of air from the room. Because the Open Fireplace is so, hungry for air it can also suck all the heat generated by other heat sources such as a night storage heaters or radiators straight up the chimney.

In many cases, a simple room-heating stove can go a long way to heating a whole cottage, or take a load off an existing central heating system in a sizeable house.

In summary

The wood burning stove is far more efficient because:

The air can be regulated to control the burn speed and therefore the temperature output.
The stoves themselves are designed so that the fire is routed through baffles which heat the stove before all the heat is lost up the chimney. Resulting in the stove radiating the heat back into the room.

The road show will provide you with the opportunity to come and see what the turbine will look like when erected. Our experienced technical staff who all have turbine installation experience will be on hand to answer any queries you may have in relation to the turbines.

Solid Fuel Stoves – Why they are better!

I’ve only realised right now just how much more efficient a solid fuel stove is than a traditional open fireplace!

I knew they were a better option but it is staggering to discover that a stove can produce almost 8 times more heat than an open fire:
Firstly the fuel itself can produce almost 3 times more heat when burned under the conditions of a stove rather than a standard fireplace. Then on top of this, an open fireplace is so hungry for air it can suck all the heat in the room from other sources right up the chimney.
The heat in a stove is routed through baffles which heat the stove itself before all the heat is lost up the chimney. Resulting in the stove radiating the heat back into the room. With an open fire, most of this heat is lost up the chimney.

Kedco in Green Energy joint Venture

Kedco has announced today that it has signed a joint venture agreement in relation to a project located in London.
The agreement means that financing will be provided by a third-party, which has been secured and covers the lease of the site and feedstock supply for the joint venture.
The feedstock supply agreement is for up to 60k tonnes each year and will run for 10 years.
This level of feedstock can generate up to 12MW of electrical power and up to 10MW of heat or thermal power per annum.
The Group is currently in the process of securing the required finance and final permits for the project.

The Group is also currently engaged in the construction of a 4MW biomass gasification plant at another site in the UK.
The project will produce electricity in the second half of 2009, as outlined in the AIM admission document of October 2008, and Kedco now expect to recognise the profit from the project in the year ending 30 June 2010.

Kedco and/or its intended future partners now have five biomass electricity generating projects on which full planning and permits have been achieved and the project pipeline continues to grow with two additional significant contracts currently being negotiated.

Kedco has also made significant advancements in its strategy of deploying smaller anaerobic digestion and gasification plants (75KW to 500KW) to the marketplace. These plants allow localised generation of electricity and heat on a small scale suitable for small businesses such as supermarkets, hotels, local government buildings and food production companies.
